This classic 1981 Honda CR450R landed in the Boretech workshop with instructions from the owner to give it the complete stripdown and nut and bolt rebuild.

The engine was removed and totally stripped and checked for wear and tear. The cases were stripped back to the bare metal, shot blasted and then repainted in-house to the original Honda fire-engine red. All the bearings and seals were replaced along with the con-rod and the barrel was bored to accept a new Wiseco oversize piston. On the drive side, a DID ERT2 chain was fitted on NOS sprockets.

The frame was stripped and repainted in the original red and the front forks and rear shock were stripped, serviced and rebuilt in-house and the steering head and rear linkage bearings all replaced.

The fork clamps were shot blasted in-house while the head bearings were being replaced.

The wheels were totally stripped and the hubs shot blasted and painted and the brakes fully cleaned and serviced. New SM Pro rims were laced to the hubs and Dunlop tyres fitted in the Boretech Tyre Bay.

New mudguards and side-panel plastics were fitted. The unique Honda flip-up front number plates are now obsolete, but after hours of trawling the internet, an original second-hand one was found.
The original fuel tank was cleaned and polished in-house and fitted with the correct period decals and matching period seat cover.

Original exhausts are rare as hen's teeth, so a period DG full exhaust system was fitted.

Renthal bars in a bend as close to the original as is now available were fitted along with Scott Radial Grips and Motion-Pro cables and levers.

A new DT-1 air filter was fitted and Potion-Pro cables and lever and the levers were modern quick adjust clutch assemblies modified to fit the drum front brake set up. Scott radial grips, brake shoes where serviced and refitted

Sadly we don't have a 'before' picture, but we, and the customer were well-pleased with the finished job pictured here.
